A Simple life sketch of Md. Abdul Mannan, Chairman(Secretary), Land Reforms Board.
Mr. Md. Abdul Mannan was born in 15th November, 1962 in a distinguished Muslim family of Chandpur village under Katiyadi Upazila of Kishoreganj district. His father is late Alhaj Md. Siddique Hossain and mother is late Ayesha Akter Khatun. In his personal life, he is married to Mrs. Kamrun Nahar and blessed with two sons and a daughter. His daughter Dr. Zarin Tasneem and eldest son Dr. Imtiaz Abdullah are physicians while the youngest son Ishtiak Jobiullah is currently studying in Notre Dame College, Dhaka.
He completed BSS (Honors) and MSS degree from Department of Political Science of the University of Dhaka. Before that, he studied in the renowned Gurudoyal Government College of Kishoreganj. Apart from these, he has a degree in Diploma-in-Education from the University of Dhaka.
An officer of the 8th batch of BCS (Administration) cadre, Md. Abdul Mannan is a career civil servant with vast field level experience. Throughout his career in field administration, Md. Abdul Mannan held responsible positions like Assistant Commissioner and Magistrate, Upazila Nirbahi Officer, Additional District Magistrate, Additional Deputy Commissioner. In his dazzling work life, he served as the Deputy Commissioner of Brahmanbaria and Chattogram district for the period of 2010-2014 with huge reputation and exceptional popularity. Before being promoted to Secretary to the Government & joining Land Reforms Board as its Chairman, he worked successfully as Divisional Commissioner of Chattogram since September 11, 2017.
Bangladesh Secretariat and Prime Minister’s Office
He had the honor to work in Ministry of Housing and Public works, Local Government Division, Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, Ministry of Social Welfare, Ministry of Women and Children Affairs of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. He worked as Director in Rajdhani Unnoyon Kartripakkha(RAJUK) and as Private Secretary to the Education and Political Advisor to the Honorable Prime Minister of Bangladesh. In addition to these, before joining to Chattogram Division as Divisional Commissioner, he served for a long time in the Ministry of Commerce as Joint Secretary as well as Additional Secretary. It is mentionable here that Md. Abdul Mannan has worked in nearly all the positions of field administration with outmost honesty and dignity.
He participated in numerous training courses at home and abroad. Notable courses among them are - Foundation Training Course at BPATC, Bangladesh Military Academy (BMA) orientation training, Survey and Settlement Training, Computer Course, MATT Course etc.
Medals and Honors
In recognition of the best Divisional Commissioner of Bangladesh, he received the 'Right to Information Medal' on the occasion of ‘International Information Rights Day-2019’ organized by the Information Commission of the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh. In the past two years (2017-2019), he relentlessly worked in coordinating the humanitarian activities for the forcefully displaced nearly one million Rohingya people from Myanmar staying in Bangladesh and worked as the Deputy Team Leader of the Joint Working Group (JWG) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Foreign Travel/Short Course
He has successfully represented Bangladesh to various countries of the world and gathered diverse knowledge pool. Some of the notable countries he visited are - The United Kingdom, The United States of America, Indonesia, South Korea, India, Singapore, Italy, Nepal, China, Russia, Malaysia, Cambodia, Philippines, Myanmar, Switzerland and Netherlands.
As a prominent writer of rare brilliance, he regularly publishes stories and articles in the country's most circulated daily newspapers. He wrote “Ontoraler Drisshopot”, a story collection based on our liberation war, which was published from Palak Publishers in 2002. His second book ' Socrateser Jollad' was published in 2016 at the Ekushey Book Fair from Agami Prokashoni. Based on his story, the liberation war related drama ‘Onteshtikriya’ was telecasted in Bangladesh Television in 2015 and got government fund in 2019 on recommendation of the Ministry of Information to make a movie. Besides, his Literary Papers 'Sarod' and 'Sampan' were published from Brahmanbaria and Chittagong respectively. His latest book ‘Dui Borno’ was published from Pathok Samabesh at Amar Ekushey Book Fair in 2018.
He is actively involved in art, literature, social and cultural activities. Notable positions in this arena are - Member, Bangla Academy; Life Member, Dhaka University Alumni Association; Life Member, State Science Alumni Association; Life Member, Chittagong Rifle Club; Former elected member and Joint Secretary to the Executive Committee of Officers’ Club, Dhaka; Executive Member, Greater Mymensingh Samity, Dhaka; and Founding Joint Secretary of Graduate Club and Library of Manikkhali, Kishoreganj.
